CAPS (Center for Advanced Public Safety)

May 21, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Rebecca Royen from CAPS (Center for Advanced Public Safety) will be joining us to give an overview of CAPS and highlight a few of their more exciting projects. They have a unique environment and get to work on a lot of different projects, ranging anywhere from websites and apps to print pieces and marketing campaigns.

The Center for Advanced Public Safety is an interdisciplinary research center at The University of Alabama dedicated to the implementation and utilization of cutting-edge technologies to enhance public safety and well-being of the citizens of our State, Nation and World. Our technology portfolio is substantial and includes areas such as analytics, data sharing and integration, novel hardware and sensor technologies (such as virtual reality), mobile applications and visualization. In addition we provide support to various initiatives of Alabama state agencies through website development, branding services, and media placement for public awareness campaigns. Our application areas include law enforcement, homeland security, traffic safety and engineering, emergency medical services and and weather & disaster resilience. In the past several years, we have done extensive work in partnership with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Department of Public Safety, Alabama Department of Revenue, The Office of Alabama Governor, Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
